Playing an instrument comes easy for some people. There are those who seem to have natural talent and can artistically express themselves with little effort. Others struggle and sometimes find it difficult to tap into the emotion of their music. They may be technically superior at the piano, guitar, singing, etc., but a less-perfected performer may draw deeper feelings from a song.
Studying music is good for your brain among other things. If you struggle with finding the emotion, the benefit of studying is not diminished. So, don't feel that you've wasted your time or tuition on your studies.
That aside, at Pedal Point Music we strive to get to the heart of the music. Performing or composing is an art form. It's an expression of one's self or experiences. So, it's not about the quantity of songs in your repertoire or even the quality - even though you want to have a good song list and perform those songs well. It is about expressing yourself! It is about finding the "heart" of your music.
So as the new year begins and you continue toward your goals, go for the heart!
After all, music is the constant voice beneath the progressions of life.
